"Agent Carter" casts Ken Marino in villanous role

"Childrens Hospital" star Ken Marino will play villain Joseph Manfredi in "Agent Carter" season two. Marvel.com describes the character as "a volatile leader in the Maggia crime syndicate who will help Peggy Carter’s adversaries further their agenda."

"We’ve loved working with Ken ever since he played a gay ex-demon for us on ’Reaper,’ and we were so happy he was available for this role," executive producers Tara Butters, Chris Dingess and Michele Fazekas said in a statement. "His range is incredible — he can go from comedy to romance to drama with ease. Writing for him is easy, because he can do pretty much anything. And he used to have a karaoke room in his house, which makes him even more awesome."

"At Marvel, even our villains need a certain degree of charm as they make life difficult for our heroes," executive producer and head of Marvel Television Jeph Loeb added. "Ken brings a quality to Joseph Manfredi that only serves to make him even more menacing, adding another layer of depth to our already outstanding supporting cast."

In addition to his recurring role on "Childrens Hospital," Marino has also appeared in "Wet Hot American Summer : First Day of Camp," "Axe Cop" and "Marry Me."

According to season two’s official plot synopsis, Peggy (Hayley Atwell) will head to Los Angeles for some Cold War-era espionage : "Dedicated to the fight against new atomic age threats in the wake of World War II, Peggy must now journey from New York City to Los Angeles for her most dangerous assignment yet. But even as she discovers new friends, a new home — and perhaps even a new love — she’s about to find out that the bright lights of the post-war Hollywood mask a more sinister threat to everyone she is sworn to protect."

Even though Peggy will be moving from one coast to another, James D’Arcy and Enver Gjokaj will reprise their roles as Peggy’s begrudging sidekick, Edwin Jarvis, and her coworker, Daniel Sousa, though it appears that Sousa will now be her boss. The new season will also feature Madame Masque (Everett) as an antagonist.

Starring Atwell and D’Arcy, "Agents Carter" season two is expected to air in January 2016 during "Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s" midseason break on ABC.
